An Anxious Interpretation of R. Strauss

2010

An Anxious Interpretation of R. Strauss was a performance in which I controlled the speed of an audio recording and video of a symphony conductor conducting Richard Strauss’s Eine Alpensinfonie through the movements of my hand over a sensor. Unlike the original interpretations of Strauss’s piece, I prolonged the leading notes and dissonant chords to extend the anticipation and anxiety of the piece. The program I built enabled me to do this without changing the pitch of the original music to preserve its musicality.
