Dissonant Performance

2010

For Dissonant Performance I developed a program to control the speed of video through the motion of my hand over a sonic ping sensor. I used digitally manipulated video of a constructed car wreck and through the performance I altered the time of the piece to anxiously prolong the wreck for as long as possible. As the two cars slowly travel towards the intersection, two sine tones also slowly travel towards the mutual frequency of 440hz. Through this work, I was exploring not only the role of machines in creating anxiety, but also the role of musical conducting and the screen as a mediator of my actions.
